Pothys” was established 90 years back by K.V.Pothy Moopanar under the name “Pothy Moopanar” to sell Cotton Sarees, Dhoties and Towels woven in his own loom.

K V.P.Sadayandi Moopanar son of K.V.Pothy Moopanar was able to expand the whole process with a self-styled retail showroom at Srivilliputtur, re-christened as ‘POTHYS. That was the starting point of the Present day Pothy's
Pothys opened the largest showroom, a six storeyed building in Panagal Park, in the year 1999, with majestic ambiences and gleaming marble and imposing atrium. This is popularly known as an “Aalayam” for Silks and has become a well known one for the Chennaites.

Pothy's have brought out a variety of Pattu sarees like Samudrika Pattu, Parampara Pattu, Vastrakala Pattu and other Kancheepuram Pattu sarees.They also have designer sarees, Churidar / Salwar materials made in silk as well as synthetic and handworked materials.Party wear sarees, Printed silks, handloom silks, silk cottons, crepe silks are some of the designer varieties you can find iin their T nagar shop in Chennai.
